Regarding the SAT or ACT I would never recommend for a student other than to take both. That is the only way you can see which one is better suited for your student. And I would recommend taking them during the spring of the 9th grade year. After the freshman year, take which ever exam your child scored higher on. Remember you can combine scores from different years from the same test (SAT or ACT). Odd, how a student may score higher on math one year and higher on verbal the following year. If you student is used to taking the exam, they will score higher just because of the confront level.
